Locating Margan in the Hunter Valley

Travelling to Margan Restaurant, Cellar Door & Winery

1238 Milbrodale Road, Broke Hunter Valley - Less than two hours from Sydney and little more than one hour  from Newcastle, the Broke Fordwich area is in the southwest corner of the mid Hunter Valley. The Hunter Valley is quite spread out so it is important to have transport of some kind. There is a small airport in Cessnock for light aircraft only. The closest commercial airports are Newcastle (1 hour) and Sydney (2 hours). Hire cars can be picked up from both airports or in the Hunter itself. There are companies that run transfers from both the airports.

Broke-Map-Jan13If driving from Sydney, there are three routes. One is via the freeway and Cessnock, one has winding roads and stunning scenery and is quicker so we suggest that you travel at least one way by the scenic route through the quaint historic village of Wollombi. The third is very windy Putty Road from Windsor.

1.Travelling From Sydney Via F3 Freeway
Join the F3 Freeway at Wahroonga and take the Vineyards/Cessnock exit. Follow the signs to Cessnock along Route 82. At the end of Cessnock main street follow Vineyard signs along Wine Country Drive towards Branxton. After 7 kilometres turn left into Broke Road. 3.7 kilometres along Broke Road turn left into McDonalds Road and then immediately right to stay on Broke Road. Hunter Valley Gardens should be on your left.
Follow Broke Road past Harrigan’s Irish Pub, Tyrrell’s Vineyard and Cracked Pepper Restaurant and on past Hermitage Road, continue straight for 15 kilometres until you reach the end of Broke Road. Turn right and then left onto Milbrodale Road. We are 500m along on the left. Please note: GPS systems try to take you around the army range on Broke Road, by indicating to go along Hermitage Road. You should ignore this and proceed straight along Broke Road to the Tee intersection at the end. Turn right and then left into Milbrodale Road.

2.Travelling From Sydney Via Wollombi – Very Scenic
Join the F3 Freeway at Wahroonga but take the exit at Calga and Peats Ridge (route 33 first exit after Mt White). Follow the signs for Wollombi. Travel along the old Pacific Highway for approx 15 kilometres and then turn left at Peats Ridge following signposts toWollombi and Singleton. The road follows the Old Convict Trail from Bucketty and winds through the valley, past Murrays Run and Laguna before arriving at Wollombi. Continue straight ahead at the Wollombi Tavern – there is a short section of dirt road (half a kilometer only) just outside Wollombi but improves shortly afterwards. Continue along the Wollombi road for a further 30 Kms until you reach Broke. Turn left onto Milbrodale Road and we are 500m along on the left.

3.Travelling From Western Sydney, Via Putty Road – Quite Twisty
Follow the Putty Road from Windsor north to Milbrodale then turn right onto Milbrodale Road towards Broke. Travel approximately 13kms along Milbrodale Road until you reach number 1238 on the right hand side.

Travelling From Newcastle or North Coast
From Newcastle or the North Coast, head towards Singleton and turn left onto the Golden Highway just after Belford. Follow this road to a tee intersection at Putty Road and turn left. One kilometer further on, turn left again into Broke Road and head south a further 15km to Broke . Milbrodale Road is on your right, diagonally opposite the Broke Service Sation. We are 500m along Milbrodale on the left hand side.

Travelling From New England Highway
Southbound on the New England Highway, turn off at Singleton and follow the main street (John St) south. Go straight through the town and head out on the Putty Road, signposted to Windsor. Watch for the left turn to Broke and Wollombi about five minutes south of Singleton. As you come into Broke, Milbrodale Road is on your right hand side. We are number 1238.
