Originating from Piedmont in Italy this red grape was first planted here in the Hunter Valley here at Margan. I took cuttings from the original Montrose vineyard in Mudgee that was planted by Carlo Corino from cuttings he bought from Italy in his suitcase. Its a medium bodied wine with great acidity. At full ripeness it still has wonderful acid that provides a style of wine rarely seen in Australia. Fantastic with any food with fat in it, the acid cuts thru enhancing both the food and the wine.
