Vintage 2021 is well underway here in Broke with our whites all picked and looking brilliant and our reds not far away from being ripe and ready to harvest. The past three years of drought are now a mere memory, replaced with consistent rain over Winter and Spring. This filled the subsoil profile and resulted in an abundant growing season over Summer. So much rain, in fact that it was starting to become a threat to the harvest. Ripe grapes don’t like excess rainfall, and winemakers like it even less! But finally, the sun came out and we started to pick in the second week of January.

It was a pleasure for Lisa and I to have our three children home to help out with harvest, as they have been doing since they were small. Now with Ollie back home, a qualified winemaker and Alessa in the Vineyard fulltime they are particularly useful! We are really looking forward to seeing what the Next Generation bring and I have no problem with them showing me up from time to time. We are also looking forward to releasing these 2021 Whites and 2019 Reds with you at our White Label Lunch in May.
