Waxy scents with hyper floral lemon lime and quince in the mix. I like it. Fleshy texture, fuller in weight but still very fresh, tart limey character with green pear. Great slip to texture, waxy finish too. This is a delicious and interesting wine.
Lisa and Andrew Margan planted this vineyard some 30 years ago. Time flies. More importantly, Andrew and I went to the same high school, some years apart (he older if you were wondering!), but we often when we see each other I mutter the school song first line to each other like a masonic password. It amuses me. Meanwhile, I saw daughter Alessa Margan ‘in the Sydney wine market’ today, doing a tasting (the new vermouths are outstanding), so it prompted me to finish off the notes from my Hunter tasting some seven or so weeks ago.
Powerful yet wildly drinkable style marries good fresh citrus characters, touch of green herb character and underlying mineral charm. Some serious thrust behind the coiled up and tense wine. Good shape and a flurry of juicy, bright freshness of acidity pooling behind. This feels classic and classy.
