Established by Lisa and Andrew Margan in 1996, Margan is an award-winning estate known for being one of the best wine experiences in the Hunter Valley region. Margan Winery has been rated 5-stars by the James Halliday Wine Companion for the last seven years. It has also been awarded Best Winery at the NSW & Hunter Tourism Awards in 2013 and 2014, as well as Hunter Valley’s Cellar Door of the Year in 2013 and 2018.
The beautifully designed restaurant and tasting room provide the ideal setting for an intimate and special food and wine experience. The beautiful Barrel Room is available for hire and is perfect for larger celebrations like birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings, seminars and weddings.
During the day, the cellar door or tasting room is the perfect venue to preview the variety of locally grown and produced wines. There are a range of wines to sample including current release, aged, limited and museum wines. At night, the tasting room turns into a wine bar with a diverse range of premium wines available.
Margan Restaurant is now in its thirteenth year as innovators of agricultural dining. The menus are based around what is harvested from the one acre kitchen garden and orchard, focussing on what’s in season. If it’s not grown or produced at Margan, it is sourced from other farms and estates in the area. Margan are firm believers in animal husbandry and all animals, poultry and fish are raised sustainably and humanely.
There is a wide variety of experiences that guests can book in to. One of the favourites is The Original 100 Metre Meal, where everything you eat is grown within 100 metres of your restaurant table! It includes Margan lamb, garden veggies, orchard fruits, free range eggs, fresh honey and olives matched with the estate grown wines.
There is also the famous cooking school which Catriona joined. With all those fresh ingredients just picked from the garden, she got to make gnocchi with spring vegetables, a dish which featured fresh asparagus, broad beans, pears and house made ricotta. The cooking class is aimed at giving guests the complete experience, from picking the ingredients to devouring the dishes.
