Margan Verdelho has been coming from the old Saxonvale vineyards for many years now. I usually do a 3 pick program for it where I pick early for acid, middle for balance and late for tropical rich spiciness. In 2016 I picked Block 15 (a 5 acre 40 year old block) separately because it had all of the components I look for in the one batch of fruit. It always looked like a perfect block of grapes and the wine has always looked special. The natural ripeness and acidity balance will ensure this wine drinks well young but also will mature beautifully.
This wine is a paradox in itself, showing the greener spectrum of tropical and stonefruit. The palate is finely textured with a generous mouthfeel. The acid is well maintained and fresh and the finish is flinty with a touch of warm clove spice.
Lime, Sherbet, Riverstone, honeysuckle, green apple.
Green pineapple, White Peach, Lime Juice.

Block Block- 15 (planted 1978)
The 2016 vintage was great for whites in the Hunter. The grapes for this wine were hand-picked and cold fermented in stainless steel to trap all the fine fruit characters available. The rich volcanic soils of the Broke Fordwich sub-region of which this fruit is sourced, leaves its footprint by way of a uniquely generous texture and mouth feel at a young age, allowing this wine to be easily approached now and also to age gracefully over the next 10-15 years.
