Range Margan Style Range

This range consists of wines where we have taken Hunter Valley varietals and been inspired to adapt winemaking practices and techniques unique to premium wine regions. These wines are:

Style Range Frizzante (semi sparkling Semillon)

Semillon grapes were selected from our Home vineyard which produces a leaner grassy style, handpicked at low sugar and 100% estate grown.

The juice was fermented under temperature controlled conditions to maintain all fruit characters and the ferment stopped to keep the balance between the sugar and the natural acid and alcohol. Natural CO2 was kept after ferment to provide light fizziness.

Style Range Dessert Wine (Botrytis Semillon)

From the same old vines that we produce our dry Semillon we also produce a Botrytis Semillon dessert style wine.

This wine has won its share of awards, including the trophy for best sweet white wine at the 2004 Decanter World Wine Awards. This wine is beautifully balanced and unique in its structure.

Style Range Methode Champenoise (Chardonnay Pinot Sparkling)

Made using traditional Methode Champenoise techniques.  It is a blend of Chardonnay from the Hunter Valley and Pinot Noir from the high altitude, cool climate Orange wine region.

Enjoy the fine bead, creamy complex palate and delicate nose of berries and toasty cashews.

Style Range Rosé (Shiraz Saignée)

We also produce a rosé style wine – Margan Shiraz Saignee.   Old vine Hunter Valley shiraz turned into a dry rose style using the saignee method.

Style Range Ripasso (Special Reserve)

This is a new wine for us and is actually part of our Style Range (wines inspired by styles made famous from other wine regions).  Over the years Andrew has practiced re-fermentation for faulty wines that need fixing.  The Italians in Valpolicella re-ferment their Corvina over Amarone skins.  Andrew thought he would try top quality old vine shiraz re-fermented over a mixture of different skins from different varieties to see what sort of complexity he could build into the wine.  He chose 2009 shiraz grown on our 45 year old Timbervines vineyard and re-passed over 2010 skins to be re-fermented.  Aged in new French oak for 2 years in total and then given 6 months in bottle.  This is the first time we have made this wine and is is complex, savoury and interesting.
