This vineyard was established by Lindeman’s in the 1970’s and leased by us since the early 2000’s. The undulating site is on deep red volcanic clay, laden with dolerite, an igneous rock similar to basalt.

ABOUT

This block of old-vines Chardonnay is planted on a southern slope, allowing the grapes to catch periods of high light intensity and lower temperatures, whilst avoiding direct contact with the afternoon heat. The grapes are hand harvested then fermented in a combination of Italian concrete, French puncheons and large oak ‘foudre’. Partial malolactic fermentation and extended lees contact add palate weight and build texture. The wine is rich with a focused fruit profile of citrus and white stone fruit and the finish is long with bright acidity.

VINTAGE

Despite a cool, wet spring and early summer, 2024 yielded a fantastic harvest. The wetness nurtured strong canopies but demanded vigilance against disease. Drying weather with mild temperatures followed, allowing whites to ripen with perfect acidity. A February heatwave then brought reds to full maturity. This unique vintage produced structured, powerful wines for both immediate enjoyment and long-term aging.

FERMENTATION & ÉLEVAGE

Partially fermented in concrete and the balance in seasoned French oak puncheons, all with native yeast and full solids. Six-month elevage on lees with partial malolactic fermentation before being bottled in Spring. Flint, grapefruit pith and lightly toasted nuts give way to a medium bodied, textured palate with a firmness of structure and acidity that will allow this wine to develop gracefully over the next 5-10 years.
