2024 Saxonvale Verdelho

Very few parts of the world lay claim to premium dry table wines with this variety, making it a true Hunter Valley icon. This 50yr old block, planted on its own roots at Saxonvale provides an impressively powerful and structured iteration of Verdelho, and we have always vinified it separately. The chocolate loam on which it sits promotes slightly more vegetative growth than other sites.

PROFILE

Aromas of lemongrass, makrut lime and guava make this wine compelling in its youth, though it is its ability to develop with interest and complexity that defies the varietal paradigm. Made similarly to Semillon, though any lees ageing is eschewed, and the wine is bottled fresh.

VINTAGE

The 2023 harvest was one of our best on record, albeit a challenging growing season with cool, wet weather persisting throughout spring and early summer. The soil moisture ensured we had strong canopy growth that ultimately held us in great shape for getting the fruit ripe but also challenged us viticulturally to keep it disease free and healthy.
