Information

ABOUT

Albariño originates from the northwest coastal regions of the Iberian Peninsula. Like the Hunter Valley this region is also classified as warm maritime, and its wines are low in alcohol and acid focused. We were the first in the Hunter Valley to plant it and the second in Australia.

We pioneered this variety on the alluvial soils of our Ceres Hill Vineyard in 2014. After a couple of years of finding its balance, this Spanish variety loves its home here in the Hunter.

FERMENTATION & ÉLEVAGE

Albarino is an aromatic grape, with much of the flavour and aroma in the skins which we leave in contact with the juice for up to 12 hours prior to pressing to build structure and flavour. This also inoculates the juice with the wild yeast from the vineyard, enhancing the production of complex aromas and glycerol, a key mouthfeel component. Fermentation is in Cleo, our truncated concrete tank. Three months ageing on lees ties this wine together before bottling.
